People from Barcelona to Peurto Vallarta, Mexico , like to enjoy the night in this manner. They firmly believe that this particular activity brings good luck for them in the coming year.

But why grapes? And why only 12? In this case, Numerology works and defines the hidden mystery behind this unique way of the celebration. Numerology tells us that each grape represents good luck in each month. Also, it gets only 12 seconds to eat those 12 grapes.

There is a common belief among people that there had been the wealthy from Madrid who copied this tradition from French people. French people would eat grapes and drinks a lot on the last day of the year. Today, the tradition is overwhelmingly celebrated all over in Mexico and different other Latin American countries.

There is also a similar tradition of eating 12 lucky grapes in Spain that is called “Aledo”. In Spain, grapes are wrapped in paper in June or July and different flavors and aroma is preserved when the grapes are ripped.
